Immunisation awareness service

How does the service work?

This service helps people understand about immunisations that keep them healthy. Immunisations are sometimes called vaccinations or jabs.

Jabs help everyone. They work by adding a small bit of illness into the body. Our body then learns to fight this illness. This stops us from getting ill in the future.

There are different jabs for different illnesses. For example, there is a jab for Covid-19, and there is one for flu. You can find out more about them on this NHS web page.

People sometimes have worries about jabs. We help people to understand how they really work. We also let people know they are safe. This can help people to make decisions about having them. We also can give advice on where to go to get holiday jabs.

Right now, we are helping young people think about whether they got a jab for measles, mumps and rubella when they were children. If they didn't, we give them advice to help them decide if they want to take it.

Watch this video we made for Somalian communities about the Covid-19 jab.

Where is the service?

The service is not in one location. Our nurses go to places where we can find communities that we think could use some advice about jabs.

Who is it for?

The service is for people in inner city Bristol. We work with different communities at different times.
